How Has Graphics influenced Games Development?
(Bunce, 2018) claims that videogame graphics has evolved from simple geometric shapes to ‘full blown cinematic experiences’. This statement tells us that in the past, videogame graphics were very simple in terms of how they appeared. This has changed however as we now have games that look graphically realistic enough to imitate movies. This means that video games in today’s world has been developed to look visually appealing to our eyes by looking realistic enough to look like movies in comparison to the past of having simple and unrealistic looking games. An example of this would be comparing videogames developed on the PlayStation 1 to the games on the PlayStation 4.
Graphics make a major impact in gaming as it has become a prime factor in games development, this is due to the result of technology advancing overtime and this can be seen in certain videogame franchises or by comparing videogames made in different years and has become important in gaming. (Addo, 2017) points out the importance of visuals in games design, this provides us an understanding that the appearance in the game does matter and therefore game developers should consider the importance of their game’s style when developing it.
In today’s world players who game on PC may need to consider making a move to the new RTX graphics cards in future. (Allen, 2019) Suggests that the RTX graphics cards could be a PC minimum requirement by the year 2023, this means that there will be a new development in videogame graphics happening in future. From our understanding, the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett will have ray tracing capabilities (Allen, 2019) , this means that they will support RTX graphics. Videogames will have to be designed to be compatible with the RTX graphics cards by developers as this is seen as the new movement in videogame graphics, this will likely mean that the traditional GTX graphics cards will not be as common in future as they currently are.
