How Has E-Sports influenced Games Development?
What is E-Sports? E-Sports is the electronic approach to sports. Players are tested on their abilities of the game they are likely competing to play in which lands them in the position to participate in E-Sports events, being depends on the game they are competing in as there are a variety of games that have E-Sports competitions for them. The attention to E-Sports has risen to a large scale to the point where it has been considered as an actual sport due to the intensely competitive nature behind them. This nature can be identified in certain games that were designed to be competitive in the first place such as Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch, Counter Strike: Global Offensive and many more.
However, like many other sports; there are methods of cheating or providing yourself a performance enhancer that can give you an advantage on the competitive games. (Good, 2018) has reported an event such as this. His article is about an event where a member of the world-famous gaming clan ‘OpTic’ was given a 5 year ban due to being caught cheating on the shooter game Counter Strike Global Offensive during an E-Sport tournament in Shanghai. It was discovered that the member ‘Forsaken’ (Nikhil Kumawat) of the India team had cheats installed on an SSD drive that would have aimed to enhance his gameplay in match, this did not work out for him as a result where he was caught trying to delete the hacks too which ended up giving him a 5 year ban from events (Good, 2018) . Example moments such as these will give video game developers a message to enforce stricter security within their games to prevent breaches into the code and being able to modify the gameplay themselves. This also shows that games are easy to access for any players as this moment in E-Sports has represented something that is common in gaming with that being cheating by altering the game to your advantage and developers will need to act against it.
